Two Michigan lighthouse organizations are receiving grant money from the sales of the Michigan’s “Save Our Lights” automobile license plates.
The Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association is getting $40,000, which along with a $20,000 match, will hire a contractor to complete a historic-structures report for Big Sable Point Light Station; and the City of Grand Haven will be receiving a $60,000 grant, which along with $76,409 in matching funds, will be used to hire a contractor to rehabilitate the Grand Haven South Pier Inner Lighthouse and Grand Haven South Pier Outer Lighthouse.
Established in 2000, the Michigan Lighthouse Alliance manages the funds from the sales of the lighthouse license plates. To qualify for the grants, applicants must have at least 50% of the grant amount in matching funds to be awarded the money.
