Although Michigan’s red-and-white-spiraled 1910 White Shoal Lighthouse has been privately owned since 2015, the beacon in its lantern, the foghorn, and the solar panels that are used to operate them, are still serviced on a regular basis by the United States Coast Guard.
A visit by a Coast Guard Aids to Navigation team last year found that everything but the foghorn was in working order and a new component for it had to be ordered. Here are a few photos of their visit, courtesy of Jill Ore of the White Shoal Light Historical Preservation Society.
