Photo Caption:
Vintage image of Dice Head Lighthouse in Castine, Maine. In 1858, wooden sheathing was placed over the round tower. This wooden sheathing remained until 1891 when it was removed. If you look closely in this photo, you will notice laundry hanging on a clothesline by the house, and the curtains are drawn in the lantern to protect the Fresnel lens from the harmful rays of the sun.
