Notes: The lighthouse was automated in 1951 and then abandoned in the 1970s when the light was transferred to a new structure nearby. In late 1998 a group of volunteers dismantled the lighthouse and reassembled it in Mal Coombs Park in Shelter Cove. In its original location the light was one of the highest in the U.S. at 422 feet above sea level. Open To Public? Grounds only. Directions: North on US Route 101 - take second exit off 101 toward Redway. Turn left and proceed over bridge toward Redway and proceed through the town. Turn left into Briceland Road. Bear right to Whitethorn (follow signs). After about 10 miles, veer to left fork to Whitethorn and follow the sign marked "Shelter Cove / Kings Range." At the second fork, follow the sign to Shelter Cove. Be careful - use low gear and save your brakes. Once in the cove, you will come to a stop sign. Turn left into Upper Pacific Drive. Turn right into Machi Road and follow it to the ocean and Mal Coombs Park. Driving south on US Route 101: Bear right on ramp at sign reading "Redway" heading southwest. Continue on Redway Drive heading west. Turn right into Briceland Road. Bear right to Whitethorn (follow signs). After about 10 miles, veer to left fork to Whitethorn and follow the sign marked "Shelter Cove / Kings Range." At the second fork, follow the sign to Shelter Cove. Be careful - use low gear and save your brakes. Once in the cove, you will come to a stop sign. Turn left into Upper Pacific Drive.
