Notes: This is the southernmost lighthouse in Scotland. The land near the lighthouse is a bird sanctuary. From the 250-foot cliffs there are views of the Isle of Man and Ireland's Antrim Hills. Tower Height: 85 Height of Focal Plane: 324 Characteristic and Range: Flashing white every 20 seconds, visible for 28 nautical miles. Description of Tower: White conical tower.

Date Established: 1828 Date Present Tower Built: 1828 Date Automated: 1988 Fog Signal: Discontinued 1987 (was two blasts every 60 seconds). Current Use: Active aid to navigation, visitor center. Open To Public? Yes. Museum? The Northern Lighthouse Board has leased a building that once housed the workmen who built the lighthouse to the South Rhins Community Development Trust. It is run by volunteers as a visitor center, and is open April to October, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nearby Lodging: The former keepers' house has rental acommodations.
