As you may recall, in November of last year we put it out there that we were selling Lighthouse Digest magazine. We did stir up a lot of interest. But it never really went anywhere.

We stated that because of recent health issues and the advancing age of our staff (our publisher just turned 75), it has become increasingly apparent that after 31 amazing years, it is time for us at Lighthouse Digest to find the next generation of lighthouse historians and preservationists willing to take over our mission.

This has recently become more apparent that we must make this change. In order to continue publishing the Lighthouse Digest, we will be taking a short pause as we search for new stewards to tell the stories of our lighthouses and their keepers.

It is important to keep up the researching and publishing the history of our lighthouses and their people, because knowing our history, enriches our present.

We said six months ago that change is constant, and we are not planning on going anywhere. Our goal is to continue publishing Lighthouse Digest until we can transition the publication to others. Well, this has recently changed. Unfortunately, we cannot continue to publish without some help. We are going to finish out this year and we are confident by the end of the year we will be able to transition to new owners and hopefully work with them for several issues, until we pass the flame to a new generation.

In 31 years, we have all learned so much about our lighthouse history. I believe it has made us better people. Because knowing more about our lighthouses and all the hard work and dedication that individuals across this country have put into building, maintaining and operating them across the United States over two centuries, makes our lives so much richer here in the present.

We are called to live in the “Now,” but certainly, the present is so much richer when we understand and honor the past.

If any of this sounds appealing to you, send us a letter of interest, or make us an outright offer. Please – serious inquiries only to: Kathleen Finnegan, Managing Editor, Lighthouse Digest, P. O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630.
