Shown here is the cover of a small booklet that was recently donated to the American Lighthouse Foundation. Basically it was a promotional booklet printed to convince people why they should vote for Maine Congressman Edwin C. Burleigh for U.S. Senator in the June 17, 1912 Republican primary.
Burleigh had successful businessman had held many previous political offices including Governor of Maine from 1889 to 1892 and U.S. Congressman from 1897 to 1911 when he lost.
The booklet said one of the reasons people should vote for him for Senator was because in the 50th Congress, Mr. Burleigh secured an appropriation of $14,000.00 for a lighthouse and fog signal to be built at Isle au Haut, Maine. He won the election for a six-year term but died in Maine three years later.
