This rare photo, taken by on May 7, 1969, shows the new aero beacon hoisted to the top of the Chatham Lighthouse on Cape Cod in Chatham, Massachusetts. In preparation for this dramatic change, the old lantern, and historic Fresnel lens, had previously been removed from the top of the tower. The light at the top of the skeleton tower to the right was used as a temporary light between the time that the Fresnel lens was removed, and the aero beacon was installed.
