James Thurston Allison, a native of Brooksville, Maine, who became the keeper of Chatham Lighthouse in 1907, had the distinction of being the keeper of the twin lights of Chatham when the north tower was discontinued and moved in 1923 to become the Nauset Lighthouse in Eastham, Massachusetts. James Thurston Allison previously served at the Cape Ann Lighthouse on Thacher Island, Massachusetts, from 1904 to 1907. According to a story in the Boston Globe, James T. Allison died December 28, 1927, while on duty at the Chatham Lighthouse, a short five days after his wife, Annie, died. He is buried at the Seaside Cemetery in Chatham, Massachusetts. Hopefully, someday his gravesite will be marked with a U.S. Lighthouse Service Memorial Marker.
