Nov/Dec 2016 This is the 19th year that Maine artist Virginia Souza has painted a whimsical lighthouse painting for the Christmas cover of Lighthouse Digest. It is a “blend” of scenes from the 1994 movie “Forrest Gump,” when Forrest Gump touched Maine’s Marshall Point Lighthouse on his famous cross country run and Forrest sitting at the bus stop. The image features Santa handing Forrest Gump a ‘’box of chocolates” in which, like the lighthouses, each one is special and good. The Gage bag under the bench is a gear bag from Grundens and Gage, a company that makes foul weather gear that is used by some Maine fishermen.
Marshall Point Lighthouse is in Port Clyde, Maine, where volunteers maintain a first class museum and gift shop.
Prints of Virginia Souza’s Christmas images can be ordered from Lighthouse Digest and are shown on a full page advertisement in this edition.
