Ponce Inlet Lighthouse volunteer Ken Marshall is a “Keeper in the Classroom” at Chisholm Elementary School in Daytona Beach, Florida. Notice that he is wearing the white keeper’s hat of the Lighthouse Service. The white dress uniform was approved for summer wear by the Lighthouse Service and was more widely used in warmer climates. However, some keepers are known to have worn the white hat, as their hat of choice, throughout the year because it was much cooler to wear. Back to the edition of: Jul/Aug 2012
