The lighthouse is located in Point Sur State Historic Park. The Central Coast Lighthouse Keepers, a nonprofit organization, works with California State Parks to manage the property. Ownership of the property was transferred to CA State Parks in April 2004. Tower Height: 48 Height of Focal Plane: 273 Characteristic and Range: White flash every 15 seconds. 1902 two story sandstone keeper's house, 1889 sandstone fog signal building, blacksmith/carpenter shop, pump house, barracks, barn, cistern, oil house, garage, assistant keeper's house (1889), marine railways (1889, 1911). Date Established: 1889 Date Present Tower Built: 1889 Date Automated: 1972 Optics: 1889: First order Fresnel lens (now on display at the Allen Knight Maritime Museum in Monterey, in the Monterey State Historic Park near Fisherman's Wharf). 1975: DCB-224. Volunteer-led three-hour walking tours are available. The tour includes a rise in elevation of 360 feet and two stairways of 40-50 steps each. Tours are year round, but may be cancelled due to extreme weather; even in summer be sure to be prepared for cold and windy conditions. Check www.pointsur.org for schedules and more information.
