America’s oldest standing lighthouse, the 1764 Sandy Hook Lighthouse in Highlands, New Jersey, was the setting for a naturalization ceremony welcoming 50 residents of Monmouth County, from 29 different nations, on September 7, 2022. The number 50 was significant in planning this event as the Gateway National Recreation Area, of which Sandy Hook is a part, is now celebrating 50 years. (Photo courtesy Peter Elbert)
