It was a cloudy night at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec, Maine, when this photo was taken, but the clouds gave way to starlight. Fireflies can be seen darting about around the lighthouse. West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is the easternmost lighthouse on the Atlantic Coast of the United States. Located on the grounds of Quoddy Head State Park the nonprofit West Quoddy Head Light Keepers Association operates a visitor center and museum in the first floor of the former keeper’s house. The state’s well-maintained trails are the most spectacular on the Atlantic seaboard. (Photo courtesy Silvana Della Camera www.Silvanaphoto.com)
