After being dark for 104 years, Florida’s Cedar Keys Lighthouse was relighted this past July 5, 2019 with a replica 4th order Fresnel fixed/flashing lens manufactured by Dan Spinella of Artworks-Florida.
The replica was manufactured using research from the U.S. Coast Guard data base from 1912. This unique lens, a standard 360 degree fixed lens, has two flash panels that rotate on the outside of the fixed lens. These flash panels contain a vertical lens and prisms, which collect the light that would normally spread from the fixed lens and created a rectangular shaped beam. This creates the fixed flashing characteristic.
The new lens was paid for by a Florida Historical Preservation grant that was applied for by the University of Florida.
