The General Services Administration is auctioning off three more Great Lakes Lighthouses that had all previously been offered for free to qualified nonprofits or other government entities. Because none of them wanted the lighthouses, they are being auctioned off to the highest bidder. They are the Ontonagon West Pierhead Lighthouse in Ontonagon, Michigan, the Wisconsin Point Lighthouse in Superior, Wisconsin, and the Poe Reef Lighthouse off the coast of Cheboygan, Michigan.
Quite frankly, we were surprised that none of the many qualified nonprofits stepped forward to take the Wisconsin Point Lighthouse or the Poe Reef Lighthouse for free.
