California’s 1870 Point Reyes Lighthouse in the Point Reyes National Seashore is undergoing a $5 million restoration - the first extensive refurbishment of the tower in its history.
The work is being funded by the Federal Lands Recreation and Enhancement Act, which gives money to deferred maintenance projects and is being overseen by the Sonoma, California based construction company Abide International.
The restoration of the lighthouse will also include the historic Fresnel lens, which will be removed from the site to be refurbished and then brought back. Lampist Jim Woodward will do the overhaul on the lens.
