The award is considered the nation’s top lighthouse honor that can be bestowed upon an individual.

Previous people who have been recipients of the award have been Ken Black, founder of the Maine Lighthouse Museum; Wayne Wheeler, founder of the U.S. Lighthouse Society; the late Cullen Chambers of the Tybee Island Historical Society; the late Richard Moehl, past president of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keeper’s Association; Michael Vogel of the Buffalo Lighthouse Association; J. Candace Clifford, lighthouse researcher and author; Thomas Tag, lighthouse author and researcher; Timothy Harrison, editor of Lighthouse Digest; Lee Radzak of the Split Rock Lighthouse; Donald Terras of the Grosse Point Lighthouse; and Ralph Eshelman of the National Maritime Preservation Task Force of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Our congratulations go out to Terry Pepper for this well-deserved honor. The nation’s maritime and lighthouse community owes him a debt of gratitude for all that he has accomplished and done over the years for lighthouses and the history associated with them. The award was earned, as well as deserved. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and congratulate you.
