After many years of ups and downs, the restoration of the 1849 East Point Lighthouse in Maurice River, New Jersey has been completed; the lighthouse was rededicated this past September 10th. The restored light station has been furnished as it would have looked during the time when lighthouse keepers and their families would have lived at the lighthouse.

The members of the Maurice River Historical Society, under the leadership of Nancy Patterson, are to be commended for their years of tenacity to accomplish this feat.

However, extreme erosion creating a lack of land between the lighthouse and Delaware Bay continues to threaten the lighthouse. The planned Army Corps of Engineers project is not expected to happen until late in 2018 or 2019. That may be too late. Hopefully officials will be able to come up with an alternative and temporary plan before it is too late to save the now restored lighthouse.
