Concord Point Light Station at Havre de Grace

This is my kind of book. It is packed full with fun and interesting images in color, as well, as black and white historic photos, all printed on heavy duty glossy pages about a lighthouse that only had two families as its keepers dating back to 1827 until it was automated in 1920.

With 164 pages, it has easy to read text that tells the amazing history of an historic Maryland lighthouse, one that many people know little about.

Concord Point Light Station at Have de Grace by Jack L. Shagena, Jr. and Henry C. Peden, Jr. is available for $25.00 plus shipping from the Concord Point Lighthouse, P.O. Box 212, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. You can call them at (410)939-3213.

Fire Island Lighthouse, Long Island’s Welcoming Beacon

Not that long ago, only back in 1982, Long Island New York’s now popular Fire Island Lighthouse was scheduled for demolition. Fortunately, locals stepped forward to form the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society to save and open the restored light station to the public. But, as with many lighthouses, over the years many of the memories, stories, and historic photos have been lost and not found until someone takes the time to research and compile the information into a book, which is what Bill Bleyer, a former prizewinning staff writer for Newsday, did with the history of Long Island, and now with this book on the Fire Island Lighthouse.

The soft cover 144-page book is loaded with numerous rare black and white and color images that tell the full history of the Fire Island Lighthouse, including information on the Fire Island Lightships.

Fire Island Lighthouse is available from www.Lighthouse Digest.com as item #2198 for $21.99 or by calling (207)259-2121.

Lighthouses of Lake Winnebago

When thinking of lighthouses, most people think of the coastal lights of the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and those along the shores of the Great Lakes. But, believe it or not, the Lighthouse Service, as well as others, once built some lighthouses on Wisconsin’s 137,700 acre Lake Winnebago. One of the famous but truly forgotten lighthouses is featured in the book, and sadly that lighthouse is no longer standing.

This 95 page book by local historian Steve Krueger is loaded with numerous historical images and informative text about lighthouses that most people never even heard of, and ones that many lighthouse experts never knew existed.

Lighthouses of Lake Winnebago is available from www.LighthouseDigest.com as item #2196 for $21.99 or by calling us at (207)259-2121.

Cape St. George Lighthouse and Apalachicola Bay

The authors, James L. Hargrove and Carol A. Talley, have done a wonderful job of tying the history of Florida’s Cape St. George Lighthouse from its earliest days as a staffed lighthouse through its abandonment, its collapse, and its miracle rebuilding. There are lots of great photos, including many of the lighthouse keepers and their families as well as some great and rare historic photos. This book does a great job of showing the reader a complete history. You will not be disappointed.

Cape St. George Lighthouse and Apalachicola Bay is available from www.LighthouseDigest.com as item #2197 for $21.99 plus shipping or by calling (207)259-2121.
