Wickie's Wisdom

Progress the Old Fashioned Way

By Timothy Harrison

Comments?

We know that civilization with its innovations is always moving forward and progress in the last ten years through the Internet has certainly changed the world.

It wasn’t that many years ago when the world-wide-web, still in its infancy, had very little lighthouse information available to its users. Now it is packed with lighthouse information, some of it great, some of it good, some of it not so good, some of it down-right bad and some of it totally inaccurate.

But, no matter what you are looking for, you still have to search for it and perhaps weed through numerous web sites to actually find the correct facts. And then there are the people who simply copy what they find on another web site and start their own web site from information that may or may not be correct.

But, here at Lighthouse Digest, we still do most of our research the old fashioned way. We use local historical societies, old yellowed newspapers, other forgotten publications and information supplied from the descendants of the keepers and family members that lived at the lighthouses.

This is also true with lighthouse books. Some give you the same basic historic information that can be found on the Internet with some pretty pictures, while other authors have searched out historical facts and photos that you will not and can not find anywhere else, except in the pages of that particular book.

And, here at Lighthouse Digest, we still do our best to keep you up to date with the current events going on at lighthouses with information that yes, you might find on the Internet, but only if you were specifically searching for it. But, we also supply you with other human interest and historical stories that you will not find anywhere else.

Plus, you still get to have the fun of sitting in your easy chair or perhaps in bed and read a magazine, the old fashioned, yet still fashionable way, while flipping through our real paper pages.

Yes, Lighthouse Digest, thanks to your help, continues to draw public attention to our lighthouses while helping to save lighthouse history one subscription at a time, the old fashioned way, though the mail, with print magazine.
