The West Quoddy Head Light Keepers’ Association (WQHLKA) begins their second season of operation on May 24, 2003. The Visitor Center, located in Quoddy Head State Park, Lubec, Maine, the easternmost point of land in the continental U.S.A., has various exhibits, displays, collages, schematics, print and film media depicting the history of the light and its keepers, and more! The Art Gallery displays local artists’ original renditions of the West Quoddy Lighthouse, Lubec and the surrounding communities. Some of the art pieces are for sale at affordable prices. New exhibits this year honor the Coast Guard and the Keepers of West Quoddy Head Light Station, and also include a giant navigation map of the region, a tide clock and a new Channel Light display.

Last season more than 18,000 visitors signed in at the Center. They came from every state in the Union, twenty-nine other countries, all the Provinces of Canada and all but two of the Canadian Territories.

This season, on Saturday, June 28th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM the First Anniversary Celebration will be held at the Visitor Center. At this Special Event, speakers will include Maine State Representative, Al Goodwin and Coast Guard Chief of Aids to Navigation, Southwest Harbor, Sam Hill. Food and beverages will be made available by Lubec businesses—Bold Coast Smokehouse, Sun Porch Industries and Seaside Chocolates. Live music will be provided by folk singer Noel Veilleux, Gabe Lowery’s Band Animal 56 and a student band from Lubec High School. Raffle tickets will be on sale for choice prizes including new 2003 items with a lighthouse theme. The Coast Guard will offer tours up the tower, and the Postal Service will be on hand with a unique cancellation designed for this special occasion.

How to get there: Take U.S. Rt. 1 to Whiting, take Rt.189 east to Lubec. Turn by the sign to Quoddy Head State Park and after 2.8 miles, bear left. Go to the end of the road.
