The USS Stump commissioned in 1978, is the sixteenth ship in the Spruce Class. The ship has seen duty all over the world, including the Persian Gulf in 1982, and 1988, Caribbean law enforcement operations, participated in NATO exercises, and in 1993, participated in the Tomahawk missile strike launched against Iraq in Operation Southern Watch. In 1996 the USS Stump was again deployed as part of the Middle Eastern Force in the Arabian Gulf. The ship is named after Admiral Felix B. Stump a World War II hero who later served as Commander in Chief, Pacific and U.S. Pacific Fleet, with headquarters in Pearl Harbor. After his retirement, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge.
