Photo Caption:

Built in 1935, the North Manitou Shoal Lighthouse rests in the waters near the Manitou Passage of Lake, Michigan off shore from the community of Glen Arbor, Michigan. The lighthouse replaced a lightship that had previously been stationed there. The first story of the structure contained a power room and area for boat storage, while the second story contained a large living area with kitchen. In 1980 it became the last off shore lighthouse in Michigan to be destaffed. This undated vintage photo is from the archives of Lighthouse Digest.
