This Bible, now on display at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, was found in the trash dump at California’s Point Conception Lighthouse. The cover is embossed with “U.S. Lighthouse Service,” the government agency that maintained all lighthouses until the U.S. Coast Guard took over in 1939. Here you can see the original signatures of the lighthouse keepers who signed the Bible over the years. It is not known why the Bible was in the dump.
