Photo Caption:

Gertrude Wellisch’s home, Plenty Charm, on Sand Island, Wisconsin, where she resided in the summers after 1942, when she stopped living in the lighthouse. The National Park Service purchased Plenty Charm in the 1970s and for a while used it as a ranger station and later for an artist-in-residence program. The Apostle Islands Historic Preservation Conservancy is restoring the house. Once completed, it will most likely contain exhibits focusing on the women of the Apostle Islands, including Gertrude Wellisch. (Courtesy Mabelle Wellisch)
