Keeper George Edward Kezer had a long lighthouse service career of 36 years total. He started at Cape Ann (Thacher Island) Light in 1900, then switched to Boston Harbor Light for three years, and next served at Duxbury Pier Light starting in 1904. Five years later, he transferred to Cuttyhunk Lighthouse for two years, then returned to Boston Harbor Light for a few months in 1911, before being appointed head keeper at Lovell’s Island Depot. George remained there for at least 10 years until when the depot keeper’s dwelling was moved over to Chelsea in 1921. His last known service location was at Newburyport Harbor Lighthouse for 12 years from 1924 to 1936. This photo of George with his two little boys, Harlan and Thatcher, look like they were taken at the same time as the photos in the newspaper article. Perhaps George is warning Harlan that Santa knows if he is naughty or nice? (Courtesy Barbara Kezer, Lighthouse Digest archives)
