Minot’s Ledge Lighthouse became a journalist tourist destination around the turn of the 20th century. There were many articles written for newspapers and magazines by these reporters who lived with the keepers in the tower for a week or two to get a taste of lighthouse life. This thrilling illustration of Minot’s Ledge Light during a “nor’easter,” accompanied an 11-page article written by Gustav Kobbe, titled “Life in a Lighthouse,” that was published in the January 1894 edition of The Century Magazine. Kobbe lived for a couple of weeks in the lighthouse with keepers Milton H. Reamy and Joseph E. Frates, who were still serving there ten years later in 1903 when the Boston Globe Christmas article was written. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
