On July 3, 1936, the top portion of the lantern was removed from West Sister Island Lighthouse and an automatic light was placed on the top. George B. Gampher, who arrived at West Sister Island Lighthouse in 1924, was the last keeper and he served here until 1937. During World War II, the house was bombed and destroyed in training exercises by the Army Air Corp. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
