Crest Forest’s Mountain Top Lighthouse Occupying one of the more conspicuous places in the 1935 National Orange Show exhibit building was this display entered by the Crest Forest Chamber of Commerce, which was a rapidly-growing community in the San Bernadino Mountains. Their exhibit fittingly featured a huge lighthouse set on the snowclad peak of a mountain. The Los Angeles Times wrote, “Upon the throne built in front of the structure, which is made of oranges in a silver framework, sits a white-clad figure waving a wand over a display of choice fruit, spread at her feet. The goddess represents the spirit of winter, according to P. J. Cormack of Crest Forest who arranged the display. A floodlight at the base of the structure illuminates the exhibit.” A different edition of the Los Angeles Times stated, “One of the most attractive of the group in this year’s show, the Crest Forest display is surrounded all day by crowds of spectators.” They described the structure is this manner: “With the snow fairy waving her magical wand in token of spring, Crest Forest’s exhibit featured a revolving beacon light standing boldly out on the snow-covered mountain forest.” (Courtesy UCLA Library Digital Collections)
