Photo Caption:

Maine’s Mt. Desert Rock Lighthouse about 20 miles south of Mt. Desert Island as it appeared when Lilla Severance was the traveling school teacher there. Notice the clothes drying on the line. The person on the far left is identified as Lyle Newman, who was visiting there at the time. Lilla recalled that at one time she feared that the person taking her to the lighthouse was lost in the fog, when suddenly her worries were eliminated as the lighthouse appeared before them.
