By the 1940s, Teddy Beuthe was working for the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. Dredges were continuously employed during the middle decades of the 20th century to widen waterways in order to accommodate increased commercial traffic. It was this necessity that caused the eventual destruction of the Bergen Point Lighthouse. (Courtesy Robert H. Beuthe Collection)
