In 1941, Hans Beuthe was transferred to the Fort Wadsworth Lighthouse where he and his wife lived in this structure, which was formerly the Fort Tompkins Lighthouse, but later became the keeper’s house for the Fort Wadsworth Lighthouse. In 1942, Hans fell down the stairs at the light, which unfortunately led to his death some months later. (Courtesy Hilda “Sugar” Ziemba)
