It is unclear what type of work was being done at Bergen Point Lighthouse when this photo was taken. However, there is a fog horn protruding from the tower. Recently Hilda “Sugar” Ziemba, granddaughter of keeper Hans Beuthe, recalled that for a time she remembers hearing a fog horn at the lighthouse. Later photos show that the fog horn was no longer there and that a fog bell had been reinstalled on the lantern’s deck. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
