A lot of the ideas and projects that took place from 1980–81 were instigated by Montauk Point Lighthouse Officer-in-Charge, Paul K. Driscoll. Joe and Paul served together at the lighthouse until 1984 when Joe left to pursue a career as a firefighter in Randolph, MA. Paul continued to serve at Montauk until 1987 when the lighthouse was automated. He later retired as a Master Chief with 28 total years of Coast Guard service.
