Manuel Resendes was born in Portugal around 1900. Not much is known about his family or early life other than that he had at least one sister. He was head keeper at Greens Ledge Lighthouse for a least as year before coming to Esopus Meadows in 1936 on a probationary appointment. Manny received his permanent appointment by 1937 when he was married to Ellie and served there until 1944, after which he appears to have left the service and taken sales jobs in the area until at least 1952. It is unknown what happened to him from that point onward. (Courtesy Arline Fitzpatrick Collection)
