This 1904 photo shows Ira Albee (left end) and Joseph Younker (second right) working together near the Coos Life-Saving Station. Both men had married daughters of Cape Arago keeper Thomas C. Wyman. It was a dark day for the Wyman family on January 20, 1912 when Ira and Joseph drowned as their launch, the North Star, wrecked upon the rocks of the Coos Bay jetty. It was ironic that the Coos Bay Life-Saving station crew could not save them, given the fact that Joseph had been a surfman years before. (Courtesy of Albee Family Archives)
