This photo was likely taken at the gathering of the extended family for Samuel’s funeral in September of 1918 after his body had been recovered. Samuel’s wife, Bertha, and daughter, Ethel, are on the front left end. Samuel’s parents, Elmer F. Holbrook in his uniform hat and his wife, Eunice, standing next to him, are looking very somber. Samuel’s sister, Esther Holbrook Robinson, is seated holding her newborn baby, Dorothy. Esther was said to have turned the light on at the Isle of Haut Lighthouse for the first time in 1907.
