Samuel Holbrook was born on August 31, 1891 to lighthouse keeper Elmer F. Holbrook and wife, Eunice Stanley. He was the fourth of six children and the youngest son. Samuel was living with the family at the Isle of Haut Lighthouse at the time of his marriage to Bertha Royce in 1913. He had helped his father maintain the light there when he wasn’t engaged in his occupation as a fisherman. (Courtesy of Heather Godfrey Willis)
