Axel Edwin Anderson was born in Stromstad, Sweden on May 30, 1890 and came to Astoria, Oregon when he was 22 years-old. This photo was taken in 1915, the year after he entered the U.S. Lighthouse Service on the tender Manzanita. Following the war and a short stint at the Portland 17th District office, he started work at the Astoria Tongue Point Depot for the next 35 years until his retirement in 1955. (Courtesy Axel E.
