Louis Buras, Sr., wearing the Coast Guard uniform, is shown here with his wife and children at the Pensacola Lighthouse. Born on July 20, 1889, Louis Buras Sr. had a long and distinguished lighthouse career. He was an assistant keeper at the Pensacola Lighthouse from 1921 to 1923. From there he went on to serve as a keeper at the Cape St. George Lighthouse in Florida, Cape San Blas Lighthouse in Florida, Bolivar Point Lighthouse in Texas, Round Island Lighthouse in Mississippi, and Tchefuncte River Rear Range Light in Louisiana. In 1938 he returned to the Pensacola Lighthouse where he served as the head keeper until 1942. At the outbreak of World War II he switched from being a civilian keeper with the U.S. Lighthouse Service to a being a military keeper with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Sitting on the porch from left to right are Huey Pierce who was born at the Tchefuncte River Rear Range Light Lighthouse on December 15, 1935; Vance Vernon, who was born at Bolivar Point Lighthouse on February 18, 1933; Harold Paul, who was born on June 18, 1940 at the Pensacola Lighthouse; and Gloria Catherine, who was born on July 20, 1926.
