The gravestone of lighthouse mover John R. Brakey in Ventura, California. When John R. Brakey was 83 years old, he decided to purchase a gravestone for the family plot that would honor both his and his father’s moving accomplishments. On one side of the gravestone, he had etched his father’s 1902 move of a seven-room schoolhouse that was accomplished with a team of 20 horses. On his side of the gravestone, he had an image etched of the Point Hueneme Lighthouse being moved by barge. Underneath the image are inscribed the words, “Light House at Point Hueneme Being Moved On A Barge By John R. Brakey 1940.” (Courtesy Ivy Lawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home.)
