Photo Caption:

Violet Hoda, daughter of keeper Barney Thomas, sharing some of her memories at the ceremony for the placement of the U.S. Lighthouse Service Memorial Marker. As a young girl, Violet remembered her frequent visits to the Tangier Sound Lighthouse. She said there was always fresh fruit available, which was usually a large stalk of bananas hanging in the kitchen during all seasons. She never knew where they came from, but she never forgot the fresh fruit. (Courtesy Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society.)
