Veteran keeper Conrad A. Stram (1880 – 1961) served for 42 years in lighthouse service. His first 14 years were on lightships, after which he was assigned to at least seven lighthouses in Michigan and Wisconsin. In Door County, he was stationed at Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, Cana Island, and Sherwood Point lighthouses. He was the last civilian keeper at Sherwood Point and continued in the Coast Guard there until his retirement in 1945. Stram was highly honored, receiving several letters of commendation, efficiency stars, and the district efficiency flag. His uniform hat and buttons are on display at the Museum. Over his photo, the U.S. Lighthouse Service pennant is appropriately placed.
